The effect of thyroid hormone status on plasma glucose-insulin interrelationship in broiler chickens.

چکیده
The aim of the present experiments was to study the plasma glucose-insulin relationship in eu-, hypo- or hyperthyroid broiler chickens. None of the thyroid states modified the fasting plasma glucose and insulin levels. Hypothyroid chickens exhibited a normal glucose tolerance and a normal glucose-induced insulin release after oral glucose (2 g/kg body weight) administration compared to euthyroid chickens. In contrast, hyperthyroid chickens exhibited an improved glucose tolerance accompanied by a lower insulin release. Insulin injections at a concentration of 0.1 U/kg body weight was only hypoglycemic in hyperthyroid chickens, which confirms the observation that these chickens are more sensitive to insulin. From this study it can be suggested that alterations in body composition according to thyroid status are at least partly mediated by changes in the control of carbohydrate metabolism by pancreatic hormones.

In order to investigate the effect of different levels of rapeseed meal on performance and content of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in broiler chickens’ blood, 640 1-d-old Ross male broiler chickens were studied through a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement including 4 levels of rapeseed meal (RSM) (0, 5, 10 and 15 percent) and two levels of enzyme (0 and 0...
متن کاملA Review on the Effect of Arginine on Growth Performance, Meat Quality, Intestine Morphology, and Immune System of Broiler Chickens
For chickens, arginine considered an essential amino acid due to the lack of urea cycle in birds. Arginine deficiency causes growth retardation, higher prevalence of disease due to the malfunction of immune system, and lower gastrointestinal capacity. However, higher levels of arginine in the diet improved growth performance, muscle hypertrophy, and meat quality. Arginine reduces carcass fat ac...
متن کاملEffect of Thyroid Activity Modulation on Some Histological and Biochemical Aspects in Broiler Chicks
An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of thyroid gland activity modulation (Hyper or hypothyroidism) on energy utilization in broiler chickens. Two hundred and forty one-day-old Cobb broiler chicks were distributed into three dietary metabolizable energy (ME) treatment groups (80 chicks each). The control group (E0) was fed basal diet (3150 kcal/kg diet), the second group (E1) w...

The objective of this study was to find a relationship between blood gas parameters and thyroid hormoneactivity with ascites syndrome in broiler chickens exposed to cold temperature and receiving a high qualitydiet. One hundred and sixty one-day-old broiler chicks were randomly divided in two equal groups. Toincrease the incidence of ascites, chicks of group 1 were fed ad libitum with a higher ...
متن کاملSelenium influences growth via thyroid hormone status in broiler chickens.
As there is a possibility that Se influences the growth of animals via thyroid hormone metabolism, the following three experiments were undertaken in order to determine the effects of dietary Se on growth, skeletal muscle protein turnover and thyroid hormone status in broiler chickens. Broiler chickens were raised on a Se-deficient diet until 12 d of age and then used for the experiments. In Ex...
